Failure in High Command
John A. English

The Canadian Army and the Normandy Campaign

English reviews the materials relating to the Normandy landings and denies claims that the worst losses and confusions were the fault of inexperienced soldiers fighting a superior force. He shows that many of the difficulties Canadians faced resulted from poor command decisions regarding training and the inability of leaders to adjust to new problems of operational warfare.

Lt.Col English retired from the regular army in 1993 after 35 years with the Queen's Own Rifles and Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry. His varied career includes a number of well-known books and articles on war.

He is currently editing a series of military history books for the publisher Praeger.

Other book(s) we recommend:

* War Gwynne Dyer - One of the definite books on war, how it is fought, what motivates soldiers, what makes a good officer, why we fight wars, and how much the winning and loosing is luck. A must read for any serious student of the art of war.
